With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I was actually going through an intense healing of a health situation that I deal with from time to time. So I was already very much in hermit mode and used to being in my own space for recovery. I was able to quickly shift gears to doing things in a socially distant manner.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
It has made me plan for even more online interaction and presence. From attending virtual festivals, and workshops, to creating more content via TikTok/Instagram, to doing more shows online through zoom etc.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
A big part of my art is related to health, and bridging the two is very important to me. So working with organizations like Workman Arts, and Unsinkable, Unison Benevolent Fund and building with Mississauga Arts Council and the community has helped me share my experience and connect with people going through the same things. I love to help people going through tough times and guide them towards wellness through my art.
I have also really started reconnecting with yoga, walking and stretching, its easy to pass the whole day glued to your computer, so little body movement breaks help. And lastly, I am so thankful for Netflix, AppleTV, Crave and HBO haha, I have been really deep diving into shows and movies!!
How are dealing with the Covid fifth wave? Have things locked down again in your region? Have you had to cancel gigs, tours, etc.? Are things reopening & restrictions are lifting in your region? Have you booked any new gigs, tours, etc.? What are your plans for 2022?
A lot of the gigs I book just pop up through the organizations I am member of, and I am super thankful that they are accommodating online shows and opportunities.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I have yet to attend, I was referred to your site through my Publicist Eric Alper, and I am excited to one day come in person.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
One of my mantra's is everything happens at it's right time! tough times don't last, and if you can envision a better future yourself you can achieve it. Be perseverant, stay humble and hungry!
